Co-op Day and Menu Planning

What a long week this has been! I have been in this house basically, all week, with the exception of dinner at a friend's house Monday night.

By Tuesday Collin had an allergy attack, which had him stopped up and coughing for 3 days! Today will be our first day out all week! Talk about cabin fever!

Today we have our monthly support group meeting and co-op. Even though this was a "sick" week, we still had to put together a Solar System project for today, and make cupcakes, and 20 valentines! I guess it was a good thing we were stuck at home or we might not have accomplished so much!

After the meeting, I am going to a friend's house to talk with her about homeschooling. She is preparing to pull her kids out of the government school and teach them at home (yay!) and she needs some help. Boy, do I remember those days!

Tonight we are having dinner with some friends from church at one of our favorite places - New York Pizza and Pasta. Very good food and great atmosphere.

Tomorrow I am going to the Main Dish to fix my 12 entrees for the month. They have some great things on the menu for February.

I spent yesterday afternoon making out a monthly menu and grocery list to go along. I even made out a "Pantry Staple" and "Household Staple" list. My goal is to go to the store every 2 weeks and not go back unless it's for medicine or something that comes up.

Each grocery day I will check my "staples" list and mark anything that needs to be bought. My grocery lists are for 2 weeks at a time - "Weeks 1 & 2" and "Weeks 3 & 4". I made out a rotating menu for breakfast and lunches during the week, so basically, Weeks 1 & 3 are the same, and weeks 2 & 4 are the same. The weekend breakfasts and lunches are different though.

We always fix a big breakfast on Saturday mornings and Saturday lunch is always something that we can have enough of for Sunday night. Sunday lunch we eat out.

The great thing about the Main Dish meals is that I don't have to come up with another menu for supper and I don't have to shop or chop for those meals either. Anything to save a little time and brain power.

For some reason, meal planning is one of the more stressful duties in my home.

This will be a busy day, but I'm so glad to be getting out! I prayed for sunshine today. I hope we get some!

Either way - God is good - all the time!

Take care!
Debbie

  1. Wow...you are so busy! So...what is Main Dish? I have never heard of it. I shop like this...I shop every other Friday...occasionally, I can go longer like this week, I have only bought bread and milk. Getting to where I may have to go though...we'll see. Sometimes I like to clean out my cupboards and fridge. Hope you have a fun day...Hope Collin is feeling better today. Dennis is in NJ, and may be stuck there because of the big snow storm, we'll see...we are supposed to get 4-6 inches of snow...below us up to 12. I am glad we are North of the big snow. Wishing you sunshine!

  2. I love this background. I love being able to change them every month, isn't that fun? Main Dish looks really neat. I saw you on the video...your pretty! You didn't look nervous to me...Brittany said you were pretty too :)

What a neat concept...thanks for filling me in...we are in heavy snow right now...hoping Brittany doesn't have to get up and teach tomorrow early...because we have to dig ourselves out before we leave. What a pain!

  3. I am also trying to get in the habit of only going to the store every 2 weeks. Made a grocery list and menu for the next 2 weeks for the first time in a long time. It does really help not to over buy.

  4. That's what I'm trying to avoid. Everytime I go to the store, I will spend more than necessary. So in addition to budgeting, menu making, and cutting back on eating out, I can elimate extra spending by not going!
