Who knew that in one year's time, our son would be engaged and planning a wedding? We certainly didn't! But, that's how fast things can change, right?
Anyway......in memory of one of the best vacations we've ever taken, I thought I'd recreate one aspect of that trip, which was eating at my favorite place of all......Marcy Jo's!
Marcy Jo's was amazing......if you like down home cooking, uneven wooden floors, mismatched tables and chairs and waitresses named Hopey and Heidi. (We'll talk about that later.)
Not long after we were seated and waiting on friends, we were presented with this........
That was just the teaser! The main meal would come out later and I don't have to tell you that it was the best food I had all week! In fact, we liked it so much that we ended our week with a second trip out to Marcy Jo's (which is actually about 40 minutes outside of Nashville). It was worth the drive!
So, why am I talking about Marcy Jo's a year later? Because I bought their cookbook and I want to try and recreate some of their amazing recipes and I want YOU to join me!
Each Sunday I'll be posting a few recipes from their cookbook that I'm going to try that week.
I've chosen an entree', either a side or bread, and a dessert for each week. Their recipes are not complicated and so far, any that I've tried off their website have turned out great, which is no surprise. They know what they're doing over there!
Here's where you come in.....
If you want to join me in cooking that week, wait for the posted recipe on Sunday, get your groceries and make the meal sometime that week. It's summer and everyone is on a different schedule, so choose whatever day works for you. Then, take a picture (every good meal deserves a picture, right?) and post it on the Facebook page for A Million Skies by Saturday. It's really that simple!
The schedule will be as follows:
June 1-7 Recipe posted on the 1st - pictures by the 7th
June 8-14 Recipe posted on the 8th - pictures by the 14th
June 15-21 (Father's Day weekend) Recipe posted below - pictures by the 21st
June 22-28 Recipe posted on the 22nd - pictures by the 28th
Because Father's Day falls on Sunday, June 15th, I have decided to let you know what the menu is for that day, in case you want to make that week's recipe on that special day, instead of later in the week. This will give you plenty of time to gather ingredients, plan your day, and amaze your husband or father with an awesome menu!
So, for June 15th (Father's Day), the meal will be:

Each recipe not only comes printed on the website, but you can also watch Marcy and Joey actually preparing the dish, right from the dining area of Marcy Jo's Mealhouse!
I hope this selection of dishes gets you a little excited about playing along with me this next month. I mean, you've got to cook anyway, right?
The BONUS is that I will be giving away a box of goodies at the end of the month to one person that participates.
